Principal’s welcome

Welcome to our website! St Mary’s College’s online presence will assist you to understand who we are and what we value.

In our Reception area, we have a lovely quote that encapsulates our College. It says:

Who is a St Mary’s College girl? When your daughter graduates from St Mary’s at the end of Year 12 we aspire for her to be a savvy young woman. For her to be articulate, a problem solver who thinks outside the square, pursues excellence in her career aspirations and is comfortable with change. We aspire for her to be compassionate, with a deep sense of social justice, an understanding of the importance of contributing to the community, and an openness to God. We wish for her to go one pace beyond in all pursuits.

As a Catholic school we are motivated by Jesus’ teaching for us to live our life to the full. This promotes the holistic education we provide at St Mary’s College. Students are supported in the development of their mind, heart, spirit and body. Through providing opportunities to allow girls to develop a love for learning, we embrace innovation from Kindergarten to Year 12. We teach students to seek out challenges and build resilience.

As a College, we focus on being leaders in curriculum, learning and teaching, while working closely with our students and their families. It is our responsibility to offer a diverse range of subjects and co-curricular opportunities and tailor the curriculum to ensure that each student is equipped for the career that they choose.

The College’s well-rounded co-curricular program includes visual and performing arts, sport, debating, service and leadership development, which all focus on complementing the learning that occurs in the classroom.

The College’s Kindergarten to Year 12 model is one of our greatest strengths, providing a seamless education as well as the opportunity to forge strong relationships with students and their families.

Following the success of our Open Days and Meet the Principal Tour days, I will continue to hold Meet the Principal Tour sessions in 2024, followed by a College tour by student leaders, where parents and carers have the opportunity to speak to students and staff, and see what we do during a day at St Mary’s College.

Groving our love of learning

St Mary's College is located on the traditional lands of the muwinina people of the South East Nation. We acknowledge and deeply respect the palawa people, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, and all Elders past and present. We are committed to learning alongside our students and community in this place, nipaluna, and support the continued sharing of knowledge and culture.
